Charlottesville's Live Game Show is Going Virtual

Wordplay, our annual fundraising event, is canceled but we're not going to let a pandemic stop us from enjoying some healthy competition!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a wonderful evening of trivia! We had 145 people logged in and 41 teams competed. We know the rankings went really fast so here they are for you to see.

Raffle Items

Several awesome community businesses donated gift certificates and items for us to raffle off as part of our fundraising event back in April. The pandemic may have shut down Wordplay, but we'd still love for you to have the opportunity to take home one of these great prizes.

How is this going to work?:

Players will all be given a link to join a Zoom webinar for the event. Players will be able to see the questions, videos, hosts, on their Zoom screen. We will then give everyone a web link that they can go to using their smartphone, tablet, or separate tab to participate in the game. Players will be able to answer questions live and scores will be displayed after each round. We think the easiest way to play is to have Zoom pulled up on your computer and play the game using your phone or tablet.

How much does it cost to participate?:

Nothing! We're bringing you this trivia event for free. You will have the opportunity to text-to-give during the event if you'd like to help support our programs and students.

Do I have to play or can I just watch?:

Anyone can join the Zoom webinar and just watch the game without answering questions. This will be similar to just buying an audience ticket for the live event.

How many players to a team?:

We are not limiting team size. Each team can have as many players as they'd like. The scores of the team will be determined by averaging the individual's scores together. Teams are on their own to decide if they want to collaborate together during the rounds.

What if I don't want to be on a team?:

You can absolutely compete on your own. However, during the event, you'll need to select "The Solos" as your team so we know you're competing individually.

Will the winning team get the Wordplay trophy?:

No. Trivia Night is a separate event from Wordplay, therefore we won't be dethroning our reigning champs just yet. Best Western will hold on to the title and trophy until we can hold the next Wordplay event.

Will there be an opportunity for interaction with other players/teams during Trivia Night?:

In the Zoom webinar format, you will have your mics and videos off and will only be able to see and hear the hosts. However, our trivia platform has an awesome feature called a "Social Wall." Players and teams can share photos or messages to us through social media using a hashtag and these photos and messages will appear on the screen for everyone to see. Are you wearing a cool costume? Snap a photo and use the hashtag to show everyone! Is your dog competing with you? We want to see him too! The chatbox within the webinar will also be open and we'll allow for some smack talk between teams.
