Citizenship Classes

LVCA offers citizenship classes throughout the year. Classes are open to people in our community, who have a Green Card, and who will be ready to apply for citizenship in 1 to 2 years. We offer citizenship classes using intermediate-level English and basic-level English.

• Classes are free, but we ask that new students pay for class materials if they are able ($10-$30)
• Registration is required

New Students and students who have not taken classes with LVCA in the past year: Before the class starts, you will need to have a one-hour meeting to fill out our registration forms and take an English test.  After you register for the class, we will contact you to schedule your meeting.

Winter Intermediate-level Citizenship Classes - Starting the week of January 5

• Classes start January 5th and meet for 6 weeks (ending February 12th).
• Review & Practice class will meet 1 time each week, New Civics class will meet 2 times each week.
• Classes are open to people who live in Virginia, have a green card and will be ready to apply for citizenship in 1 to 2 years.
• Classes use Intermediate level English.
• Classes are on Zoom or In-Person. In-Person classes are in Charlottesville at the Jefferson School.

Classes are free, but we ask students to pay for the class materials if you are able: 

• If you are taking the New Civics Test class, you will need our new Civics Handbook. We ask students to pay $10 to cover the cost of printing if you are able to.  
• If you need us to mail you your handbook, there is an additional shipping fee. 
• We will send you a link to pay online or you can mail us the handbook fee. (Our address is 233 4th St NW, Box L, Charlottesville, VA 22903)

New Students and students who have not taken classes with LVCA in the past year:

• You will need to have a meeting to finish signing up for our program. After you sign up for the class, we will contact you to schedule your meeting.  If you do not live near Charlottesville, we can do this meeting on zoom.

Review and Practice Class: This class is ONLY for people who filed their N400 citizenship application with USCIS BEFORE October 18, 2025. This class meets 1 time each week

• Zoom Morning option: Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 10:00 am
• Zoom Evening option: Thursdays from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm
• In-Person Option: Tuesday mornings from 10:00 to 11:00 am, Jefferson School City Center, Room J125

New 2025 Civics Test Class: This class is ONLY for people who have not filed their N400 application or who filed their application AFTER October 18, 2025. This class meets 2 times each week. 

• Zoom Morning option: Mondays AND Tuesdays from 9:30 am to 11:00 am
• Zoom Evening option: Tuesdays AND Wednesdays from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
