Our English for the Interview handbook helps people prepare for all of the English tests that are part of a naturalization interview. We custom design visuals to help make each question clear to students, especially those difficult Yes/No questions. With a focus on important vocabulary, reading, and writing skills, this handbook will prepare your student for their interview!

Our updated Civics handbook helps people prepare for all of the questions in the 2025 Civics Test. We custom design visuals to help make each question clear to students and include just enough context to help students understand without overwhelming them. This updated handbook covers all 128 revised questions and can be aligned with accompanying YouTube Videos (which are freely accessed).

Literacy Volunteers Curriculum: A Proven Track Record for Success!

Over the past four years, an average of 60 of our students have passed their interviews each year, and we have maintained a 98% pass rate for our students. Students and instructors rely on our materials in both group classes and one-on-one tutoring. Each spiral-bound handbook provides space for students to take notes and practice their answers. 

LVCA's Citizenship Coordinator, Catherine McCall, serves as the lead designer for all of our citizenship materials. She brings a decade of experience in Social Studies teacher education to this work, along with nearly as many years designing materials and teaching citizenship classes to adult immigrants and refugees, in both Charlottesville and the Washington DC area. In her 6 years in her current role, Catherine has taught several hundred students in online and in person group citizenship classes, and has supported over 100 volunteer tutors working one-on-one with citizenship students. She has conducted over 250 practice interviews with individual students to help them prepare before their USCIS interviews.  LVCA also receives invaluable input into the development and refinement of our materials from our amazing team of volunteer citizenship class teachers.
