Both our English for the Interview and 2025 Civics Test handbooks and accompanying materials are designed to be easily accessible for English Language Learners. Each comprehensive handbook includes clear explanations, visual reinforcement to improve comprehension, and opportunities for students to test their knowledge. The handbooks are designed to have just enough context to build learning without overwhelming the students. Each unit has an accompanying YouTube practice video that builds students' confidence as they practice the questions (the 2025 Civics Test Materials YouTube content will be posted by January 31).

English for the Interview Materials

Our English for the Interview handbook helps people prepare for all of the English tests that are part of a naturalization interview. We custom design visuals to help make each question clear to students, especially those difficult Yes/No questions. With a focus on important vocabulary, reading, and writing skills, this handbook will prepare your student for their interview!

Our updated Civics handbook helps people prepare for all of the questions in the 2025 Civics Test. We custom design visuals to help make each question clear to students and include just enough context to help students understand without overwhelming them. Literacy Volunteers Curriculum: A Proven Track Record for Success!

In Fiscal Year 25, 54 Literacy Volunteers' students passed their naturalization interview. For over five years, we have maintained an interview pass rate of 98% and have used our materials in both one-on-one and classroom settings.

Each spiral-bound handbook provides space for students to take notes and write their answers.

All curriculum is designed by LIteracy Volunteers' Citizenship Coordinator Catherine McCall. Prior to her work at Literacy Volunteers, McCall served as a coordinator for Social Studeies Education at University of Maryland, as a trainer and curriculum designer for a civic education nonprofit, and as a social studies teacher. She has volunteered as an English teacher in Mexico, and as a citizenship teacher in the DC Area, and with LVCA.

She holds a VA from the University of Virginia and a Master's in Education from the University of Maryland.
