Voting in the Democratic Party Primary

In Virginia, the Democratic Party selects its candidates through a primary. A Democratic Party primary will take place on June 8, 2021. Voters will choose candidates for the following races: Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General. You do not need to be a registered member of the Democratic Party in order to vote in the primary. 

Here are important dates you should know if you want to help select a candidate for the Democratic Party. 

  • The first day of in-person absentee voting at your local registrar's office is Saturday, April 24, 2021. 
  • The deadline to register to vote, or update your voter registration is Monday, May 17, 2021. Click on this link to register. 
  • The deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you is Friday, May 28, 2021. To request a vote by mail ballot, click here
  • The last day of in-person absentee voting at your local registrar's office is Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 5:00 p.m.
